Situated on top of a rock in the valley of the river ‘L’homme’, the castle dominates the village of Mirwart.
The chronique of the abbey of Saint-Hubert mentions the first real stronghold being built in 955. The lords of Mirwart were the solicitors of the abbey from the 8th century to the last quarter of the XVII century.
The castle has known a turbulent history. Several times destroyed and reconstructed, the current building was built between 1706 and 1734 on the remains of previous strongholds.
